Last week, we released an interview with one of our former speakers in New York City: Michael Pryor, the co-founder of Trello. Trello is a tool which helps individuals and professionals organize their lives and businesses. The successful American company launched operations in European countries, including France. What sparked the idea of launching Trello? How can we explain the company’s success? Why cross the Atlantic? Pryor kindly enlightened us and even shared advice for foreign entrepreneurs who have the ambition of launching their businesses in France.

French online venue-booking startup Privateaser raised €10M / $12M to consolidate its leading position in Europe by strengthening its presence and solid growth in Spain. [article in English]
Poietis, French HealthTech specialized in bioprinting technology, raised €5M / $6.2M. The startup is now renowned for its advanced research in bioprinting, and has recently made bioprinted tissue available on the market. [article in English]
On Tuesday, DeepMind and Samsung both announced the opening of their AI laboratories in France, whereas Fujitsu communicated on the expansion of its existing Paris research center. These announcements follow those from Facebook and Google who have increased investments in their French AI labs, which confirms the French government’s ambition of making the country a world leader in AI. Indeed, France announced last week it would invest €1.5B / $1.8B over five years to support research in the AI sector. French President Emmanuel Macron shared his goals and motivations regarding this investment in an interview with Wired. [article in English]

Swedish music streaming service company Spotify is entering the New York Stock Exchange market today. Co-Founder and CEO Daniel Ek signed off his announcement with a special quote from French group Daft Punk. [article in English]

French startup Back Market specialized in repackaged products announced its launch in the USA. Already implanted in Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Spain, it will try to conquer the American soil, starting by opening an office in New York. [article in French]
French Basque Country startup The Wave Bumper will export its products to the Caribbean, accessing the door to the American market. The company sells seawalls to protect shores from flooding, a very successful product after the hurricanes that happened earlier this year. [article in French]
Australian telephone company Telstra will open a new office in Paris, making it its European hub. In recent years, the telecom company made efforts to increase its presence within the European market by acquiring UK-based technology services business Company85. [article in English]
